Now that school is, some students from the region who have benefited from the free and reduced meals during the school year could be found without a healthy lunch.
But two programs of the State of Minnesota are in place this summer to ensure children accommodation nutritious food during the summer break.
The summer and seamless Summer Food Service programs are offered in communities throughout Alabama, and there is no charge to participants. Seamless summer takes place in local schools, and the summer Food Service takes place in churches or community centers subscribe to feeding sites.
"We have a number of children who eat breakfast at school," said Kay McCreery, Superintendent of recreation for the city of Montgomery. "When school is out, it is an opportunity for children to always get a nutritional breakfast, balanced."
McCreery Department is one of the organizations sponsoring Summer Food Service. She said that the program is possible through a grant from the Ministry of Agriculture of the United States. The grant money is in the Ministry of education of Alabama, and various sponsoring organizations use it to carry out the program.
She said there are 15 feeding sites of the summer in the Montgomery community centres: Chisholm, could, Floyd, Goode Street, gardens Hayneville Road, Highland, Houston Hill, Hunter Station, King Hill, Macedonia, McIntyre, McKee, old Selma Road, Sheridan Heights and Smiley Court.
McCreery said people should check with their community centre nearest to discover the specific lunch time. She said generally, meals are served between 11 am and 1 pm, Monday to Friday.
Students who are 18 years of age or younger are eligible take advantage of the program.
"They just need appears," she said.
The program offers an excellent opportunity for students to receive meals during the summer, especially if their parents are working.
Students can also find healthy meals in different schools through seamless summer program. Montgomery, the program is offered in primary schools in Carver, Halcyon and goods Ferry.
